A festive ceremonial event dedicated to Georgia’s Independence Day was held on Freedom Square in Tbilisi.
The newly summoned recruits of national military service took an oath and joined the Georgian Defence Forces.
President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili; Catholicos-Patriarch, His Holiness and Beatitude, Archbishop of Tbilisi and Mtskheta and Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum Abkhazeti, Shio III; Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani delivered their speeches.
Representatives of the Diplomatic Corps attended the ceremony.
On May 26, military venues were traditionally organized and the population will have the opportunity to view military equipment, weapons, and ammunition in Tbilisi and 20 other cities.
