Maritime Transport Agency Head charged with negligent firearm storage over shooting incident involving Tornike Rizhvadze

According to available information, the head of the Maritime Transport Agency, Aleksi Akhvlediani, has been detained in connection with an incident involving Tornike Rizhvadze, the former Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

Akhvlediani has been charged under Article 238 of the Georgian Criminal Code, which deals with the negligent storage of a firearm. The shooting took place at Akhvlediani’s residence, where Rizhvadze was reportedly present at the time.

In addition to Akhvlediani’s charges, authorities have launched a separate investigation under Article 115, which concerns incitement to suicide.

Rizhvadze was hospitalized earlier today at Sagarejo Hospital with a gunshot wound. Doctors say his condition is serious but stable. The investigation is ongoing.
