Maritime Agency: Claims about Russian vessel Midvolga 2 heading to Georgia not based on facts

The Russian-flagged vessel Midvolga 2 was not and is not nominated in any Georgian seaport, and no notification of its approach appears in the National Maritime Single Window (NMSW), the Maritime Transport Agency announced.

According to the Agency, claims that the vessel was en route to Georgia are not supported by any verified data.

“The Maritime Transport Agency responds to information published in open sources regarding the Russian-flagged vessel Midvolga 2 (IMO 9735139), which was reportedly attacked 80 kilometers off the coast of Turkey. These sources also named Georgian ports as the vessel’s destination. According to information verified by the LEPL Maritime Transport Agency, this vessel was not and is not nominated in any Georgian seaport, and no notification of its approach appears in the National Maritime Single Window (NMSW). Therefore, the information that the vessel was heading to a Georgian port is not based on any facts,” the Agency said.

For context, earlier today, Turkish authorities reported that a Russian-flagged tanker transporting sunflower oil from Russia to Georgia had come under attack.
