Mariam Shengelia to represent Georgia at Eurovision 2025

Georgia will be represented at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest by the talented 22-year-old Mariam Shengelia.

Eighteen Georgian artists expressed interest in participating in the competition, submitting an array of their works. The GPB First Channel also received contributions from over 20 foreign composers. The Public Broadcaster ultimately selected a project rich in Georgian motifs and national elements, designed to showcase our country’s cultural identity on the international stage.

Mariam Shengelia has participated in two GPB First Channel projects—”Georgia’s Star” and “The Voice.” She also served as a backing vocalist for Tornike Kipiani, Georgia’s entrant at Eurovision 2020, a competition ultimately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The song “Freedom,” which she will perform, was penned by Keti Gabisiani, with lyrics by Buka Kartozia. Kakha Bukhrashvili directed the music video, with costume design by Iza Nadareishvili. The artistic direction of the video was a collaborative effort by Shako Popiashvili and Nino Tsulaia. The project also features dancers from the State Song and Dance Ensemble “Erisioni” and the Gia Kancheli Tbilisi Youth Orchestra.

Eurovision 2025 will take place in Basel, Switzerland, on May 13, 15, and 17. Mariam Shengelia will perform in the second semi-final on May 15. The competition will traditionally be broadcast live on the GPB First Channel.
