Mandatory certification for architects and construction engineers postponed to December 20, 2026

19:34, 08.06.2026

The mandatory certification requirement for architects and construction engineers will now come into force on December 20, 2026, instead of the previously scheduled September 1 deadline.

According to a draft law submitted to the Parliament of Georgia, individuals currently engaged in architectural and structural project approval, expertise, and technical supervision will be allowed to continue their activities under the existing regulations until the new deadline.

The proposal also extends the transitional framework governing construction oversight and expert evaluation of permitting documentation.

Under the current transitional arrangement, designated professionals will continue to carry out technical supervision and expert assessments of permitting documentation together with accredited inspection bodies and certified experts until December 20, 2026.

The explanatory note attached to the bill states that the postponement is necessary to ensure a smoother implementation of the certification system and to adjust the regulatory framework for construction oversight and expertise activities.
