Lithuanian President: Upcoming elections important for Georgia, no chance for success in EU integration if status quo remains

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has stated that the upcoming elections in Georgia will be critically important, as they will determine the country’s future direction regarding Euro-integration. He emphasized that if the Georgian people choose to maintain the current status quo, the country may struggle to progress on its European path.

Nausėda remarked, “Georgia is a big issue, and it will be critically important elections in Georgia because the Georgian people will decide on the direction. If they stay and keep the same status quo like now, I don’t think that Georgia has the chance to proceed and to be successful on the path of Euro-integration. If not, if pro-European forces will achieve victory, then we can expect a different path and we would welcome it very much”.

In discussing Moldova, he highlighted: “I would like to pay your attention to quite important events, political events in Moldova and Georgia. This weekend, the presidential elections and referendum on the European Union membership in Moldova. I think a crucial moment. We can expect that Moldavian people will decide and will choose the pro-European way, and I count on that very much. I was in Moldova together with the presidents of Latvia and Estonia, trying to convince especially younger generations to choose tomorrow and not yesterday.”
