The Chair of the Lithuanian Committee on Foreign Affairs Žygimantas Pavilionis believes “transatlantic community of democracies, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken should focus on an aggressive, autocratic tone and possible actions against the leader of the Georgian opposition Nika Melia.”

Tbilisi City Court ruled imprisonment for the United National Movement (UNM) party Chair, Nika Melia on February 17. Melia has been accused of organizing mass violence during anti-government protests in 2019. UNM leader denies the charges.

Melia’s arrest had been temporarily postponed following Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s resignation related to the opposition party leader’s case.

Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtan Gomelauri vowed on Sunday that the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) is working on the enforcement of the court decision.
