Linas Linkevicius: We urge countries to grant access to the independent monitoring mechanisms to Ukrainian and Georgian territories, illegally occupied by Russia
We urge countries to grant access to the independent monitoring mechanisms to Ukrainian and Georgian territories, illegally occupied by Russia, – the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevicius said in a speech at the 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council.
According to the Lithuanian Foreign Minister of Lithuania, the refusal of access for independent monitoring mechanisms obstructs the work of the UN.
“The reason behind the existence of the United Nations is to protect the peace, human rights, justice and social progress globally. I’d like to voice my country’s strong support to the mandate and independence of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and his/her office. We urge countries to grant access to the independent monitoring mechanisms to the territories where systematic human rights abuses take place, including the territories of Ukraine and Georgia illegally occupied by Russia. Refusals of access are obstructing the work of the UN. We should have more trust in the mechanisms we have created”, – said Linas Linkevicius.
