MP Levan Koberidze quit the parliamentary majority. He told journalists that his decision was linked to the draft-bill on Courts of General Jurisdiction which was approved by the parliament with the third hearing earlier this afternoon.
Koberidze voted against the legislative package prepared by the parliamentary majority. The 87 lawmakers voted for the package, 33- against. The draft-bill defines selection criteria and qualification requirements of judicial candidates.
Several recommendations of the Venice Commission were reflected in the legislative package including cancellation of qualification examinations for the candidates.
