Lelo’s Gegelia: GD endangers Georgia’s European future

Grigol Gegelia, Foreign Secretary of Strong Georgia – Lelo, accused the ruling Georgian Dream party of “destroying Georgia’s geopolitical future”

According to Gegelia, the government has failed to take steps required to preserve visa-free travel, which he described as a vital “economic, political and personal opportunity for Georgians.”

“Today is the day that exposes the pro-Russian regime of Georgian Dream, which has done nothing to preserve visa-free travel for millions of Georgians,” Gegelia said. He argued that instead of addressing the EU’s key requirements — such as defusing the political crisis, releasing political prisoners, and ensuring free elections — the government has taken actions “in the opposite direction, serving Russian political interests and attacking NGOs.”

Gegelia stressed that responsibility for the potential suspension of Georgia’s visa-free regime lies solely with Georgian Dream, which he described as a “criminal gang” leading the country away from its European path.

“As long as this regime rules in a de facto manner, there will be no European integration, no peace, and no prosperity. All Georgians must understand this and fight to return the country to its historic European course,” he concluded.
