Lelo urges parliament to demand joining EU-imposed sanctions

Lelo party urges the Georgian parliament to immediately start working to demand from the government to partially join the sanctions imposed by the EU against Russia for the war in Ukraine.

Salome Samadashvili, a Lelo member, said this move would be an “essential necessity to protect the Georgian state.”

“Recalling an ambassador for consultations in a diplomatic language means that Ukrainian government deems the Georgian government’s policy as contributing to the Russian intervention and implementing war objectives,” Samadashvili said.

Salome Samadashvili also called on Georgian people to continue holding protests to express their support to Ukraine and demonstrate that their standpoint differs from the governmental stance.

Ukraine has recalled its ambassador to Georgia, Igor Dolgov, over what President Volodymyr Zelensky called the Georgian government’s ‘immoral position’ regarding the Russian invasion, as well as Georgia’s decision to block a charter flight scheduled to bring Georgian volunteers to Ukraine.
