Lelo member: EUCO mentions no progress by Georgia, calls for active steps for EU candidate status
“The European Council spoke not a single word about Georgia showing progress in terms of achieving the requirements for candidate status,” said Salome Samadashvili, a member of the opposition Lelo party.
According to Samadashvili, the EUCO has urged the government to take action. She also stated that calls for the resolution of ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili’s case would be crucial in EU-Georgia ties.
“The candidate status is jeopardized, and Saakashvili’s health is deteriorating, causing extra obstacles. Messages from the prominent People’s Party reveal that the politicized judiciary, as well as the cases of ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili and Mtavari Arkhi General Director Nika Gvaramia, challenge receiving candidate status,” Salome Samadashvili stated.
