The Georgian Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee supported candidates for the post of Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Giorgi Kalandarishvili, and CEC members Maia Zaridze, Giorgi Sharabidze and Gia Tsatsanashvili.
The committee heard the candidates’ visions. Based on the amendments to the Election Code, a 3/5 quorum and a 3-stage process will be introduced in the selection of CEC chair and staff.
The first hearing will require 90 votes. If 90 votes are not collected, they will be elected by 76 votes. The selected candidates will assume offices for a 5-year term.
If the parliament fails to collect 76 votes pro and fails to elect the candidates as a result of voting, the President will make the decision.
