Legal Affairs Committee opposed President's veto on Electoral Code amendments
The Legal Affairs Committee convened to discuss the Electoral Code, during which the president’s reasoned statements failed to garner support from the committee.
The committee voted and approved the initial version of the bill.
“Giorgi Mskhiladze stated that this is the fifth veto used by the president. It is symbolic that the president’s veto has become the fifth. Our society knows very well what the fifth means and who it is associated with.
It is unfortunate and challenging when a weak position is used to make motivated statements that should be genuinely motivated and reasoned, rather than influenced by the interests of any political group. If the president declares neutrality, then she should meet a minimum standard. However, this minimum standard has not been met for a long time and has crossed the line of neutrality. This is a sad situation,” said the committee chair, Anri Okhanashvili.
