Lawyer: Bachiashvili released from prison yesterday following plea agreement; sentenced to one year of probation and GEL 50,000 fine
According to Levan Makharashvili, the lawyer representing former Co-Investment Fund head Giorgi Bachiashvili, Bachiashvili was released from detention yesterday under the terms of a plea agreement.
Makharashvili explained that Bachiashvili had entered into plea agreements across all three criminal cases against him, and that criminal proceedings against his parents had also been discontinued.
“A plea agreement was reached with Giorgi Bachiashvili, which resulted in his release from prison yesterday. Separate plea agreements were signed for each of the three criminal cases he faced. Additionally, the civil case between him and the victim was resolved through a settlement. As for his parents, criminal proceedings against both have been discontinued, and they are no longer wanted. Ultimately, Bachiashvili received a sentence of one year’s probation and a fine of 50,000 GEL,” Makharashvili stated.
For context, Giorgi Bachiashvili, the former head of the Co-Investment Fund, was sentenced to eleven years in prison on March 10, 2025, after being convicted of embezzling cryptocurrency from Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of Georgian Dream.
The State Security Service apprehended Bachiashvili on May 27, 2025.
A plea agreement with Bachiashvili was signed on February 18, 2026.
