Latvian FM expresses hope for Georgia's candidacy status, acknowledges strong public desire and gov't clear intentions
It is very clear that not only do the Georgian people very much want to join the European Union, but the government also signals very clear intention, stated the Latvian Foreign Minister Krišjānis Kariņš in Brussels where the EU Foreign Ministers Council meeting and the Eastern Partnership (EaP) ministerial take place.
“Three big items are on the table. The first is Ukraine. The second is the war in the Middle East. And the third is the Eastern partnership.
I certainly expect and hope that this week, Georgia will be granted candidacy status. I’ve met recently with Georgia’s Foreign Minister, and it is very clear that not only do the people very much want to join the European Union, but the government also signals very clear intention.
This is very positive. From our side, we will do everything to help Georgia along its path over reforms,” the Latvian Foreign Minister declared.
