Large-scale flood prevention works completed along Vere River basin in Tbilisi

Large-scale preventive engineering works have been executed along the Vere River channel to restore water discharge capacity and mitigate flood risks across the capital.

Speaking at a municipal government meeting, the Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, noted that the completed works will ensure unimpeded flow of water during periods of high water levels.

“Relevant municipal departments of Tbilisi City Hall systematically monitor high-risk sites and zones, carrying out targeted engineering works whenever necessary. On this occasion, large-scale preventive measures were undertaken along the Vere River channel to secure its hydraulic flow capacity. Specifically, a 200-metre stretch of gabion bank protection structures constructed on the slopes along both sides of the channel was cleared of accumulated debris. Furthermore, dense vegetation overgrown directly within the riverbed was cleared to enable the free, unobstructed flow of water,” Kakha Kaladze stated.

The Mayor added that Tbilisi City Hall continues to carry out such preventative maintenance and regular monitoring.
