Regional Development Minister: Georgia wins GEL 70 million in arbitrary dispute against Italian company
Georgian Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze, responded to the accusations over an Italian company, which had to build a tunnel at the Rikoti Pass but was allegedly rejected for its drilling method.
Karseladze explained that Georgia terminated a contract with the Italian company in 2018 due to its failure to meet its commitments. He further clarified that Georgia won an arbitrary dispute against the company in 2022 and regained GEL 70 million.
“It is regrettable that verbal accusations from the opponents have no end. Instead of arguments and facts-based debates, we hear personal offences. It is proof that it is difficult for them to argue with facts. However, the worst result of this campaign is instilling fear in society about the Rikoti Pass.
The Minister added that the government would continue communications with the society to persuade people that the new highway at the Rikoti Pass would be “safe, comfortable and bring economic benefit to the country.”
