Kurt Volker provides explanations about his interview with Evropeiskaya Pravda
Kurt Volker, Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations, Leading U.S. efforts to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine, provided explanations about his interview given to the Ukrainian edition of Evropeiskaya Pravda publication.
Volker wrote on Twitter social network that Putin did not attack Georgia for the rhetoric of top politicians but to block Georgia’s Trans-Atlantic integration aspiration.
Volker released the edited version of his interview with the publication. “It is true that the anger of Russia was caused by the rhetoric, but the Russian aggression had its reasons,” Volker said.
Initially, the American diplomat named the rhetoric of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili as one of the main reasons of August 2008 Russia-Georgia war and aggression of Russian President Vladimir Putin against Georgia in the interview with Ukrainian edition of Evropeiskaya Pravda publication. Later the publication edited this passage of the interview upon Kurt Volker’s request.
