Kelly Degnan: There is no reason why U.S. would want to put Georgia in jeopardy

U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan, on Friday, said “On the second front, I will say again, as I have said many times before, that is 100% false. Absolutely false. There is no reason why the United States would want to put Georgia in jeopardy.”

She went on to say that “We’ve spent 30 years trying to help you strengthen your ability to defend your borders, trying to improve your security and your safety by working with the Georgian Defense Forces, by working with the Coast Guard, and the Border Police.”

“Why would we put Georgia at risk? We are very sensitive to the position that Georgia is in. With 20% of your territory occupied by an aggressor like Russia, we absolutely would never put Georgia in that position. I have said this many times before. It is concerning when we hear this conspiracy theory repeated and sometimes echoed by members of the ruling party. This is very concerning when they in particular know that this is 100% false,” she added.
