Kelly Degnan: Everyone wants to see that both parts of agreement are fulfilled, We hope constitutional amendments will have multi-party support
Georgia’s political parties have reached an agreement, compromised, and now everyone wants to see that both parts of the agreement are fulfilled, – said Kelly Degnan, the United States Ambassador to Georgia.
“Our statement on the election reform clearly states that the ambassadors participating in the dialogue do not want to comment on specific details. The March 8 agreement was reached by Georgian political parties. It was a real success that they were able to reach an agreement, to compromise, now everyone wants to see that both parts of the agreement are being implemented. There were now two votes on constitutional changes in the parliament. There is also a joint statement regarding interference in the justice system and selective justice. This must be done. We hope that the constitutional amendments will have multi-party support. This will definitely prove the commitment of the democratic process in this country and create the right conditions for fair elections. I believe that additional steps should be taken to fulfill the second part of the joint statement, which was signed on March 8, “- said Kelly Degnan.
