Kavelashvili welcomes Azerbaijan-Armenia peace steps, emphasizes regional stability

“We welcome the steps taken by Azerbaijan and Armenia toward establishing lasting peace, which should contribute to the region’s movement toward peace and stability,” President Mikheil Kavelashvili stated during a joint briefing with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Kavelashvili affirmed that “Georgia supports the formula of peaceful coexistence in the South Caucasus and consistently expresses readiness to contribute to promoting peace and constructive cooperation in the region.”

The Georgian president highlighted the significance of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey trilateral format in addressing current regional challenges.

“Given existing geopolitical realities, regional cooperation has gained even greater importance, aiming to promote peace and stability as well as the development of our countries. The Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey trilateral format is an excellent example of how countries that respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity can cooperate effectively and successfully, ready to implement the most significant projects for the region,” Kavelashvili declared.

Addressing security concerns, the president emphasized discussions about Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine and Black Sea security dynamics.

“In the context of security challenges, we discussed the full-scale aggression conducted by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the importance of Black Sea basin security, and Turkey’s tireless efforts, particularly President’s role, in contributing to finding dialogue possibilities between the conflicting parties,” he stated.

The meeting also addressed ongoing Middle East developments, with Kavelashvili noting that “Georgia supports the idea of the necessity of establishing peace in the Middle East.”
