Kavelashvili: Georgia’s historical role is rooted in protecting its interests and building respectful relations

“Georgia’s historical role has always been founded on defending its own national interests and cultivating relationships with other states built on mutual respect,” the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, stated while discussing foreign policy on Imedi LIVE.

The President noted that throughout the most successful periods of Georgian statehood, the nation’s strength was largely defined by a clear understanding of its national interests and a pragmatic approach to relations with political and economic partners.

“We attack no one. Our primary focus is our country’s interests, and we stand ready to maintain relations with every state based on mutual trust, mutual respect, and shared benefit,” Mikheil Kavelashvili said.

According to the President, today’s foreign policy represents the modern continuation of this state tradition, anchored in national interests, prioritising the preservation of peace and stability, economic growth, and equal cooperation with international partners.

Kavelashvili added that Georgia’s achievements amidst a challenging geopolitical landscape have earned positive recognition from international partners. The country’s trajectory demonstrates that adapting its historic role to contemporary realities enables Georgia to safeguard its sovereignty while remaining fully open to cooperation with all partners.
