The damage caused by severe weather in the eastern Georgian municipality of Telavi is extensive, Kakheti State Representative Platon Kalmakhelidze said on Sunday.

Speaking to journalists, Kalmakhelidze stated that the storm primarily damaged road infrastructure, with initial cleanup operations already underway.

“The damage caused by the disaster is quite significant. Most importantly, there is no threat to the population. To ensure public safety, the municipality’s natural gas and electricity supplies have been partially restricted and will be gradually restored throughout the day,” he said.

Kalmakhelidze added that authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage and will begin restoration works once the evaluation is completed.

“A coordination council has been convened. All ministries and relevant agencies have been mobilized to eliminate the consequences of the disaster in the Telavi municipality as quickly as possible,” he noted.

Heavy rainfall in Telavi flooded the ground floors of residential buildings and other properties, damaged power lines, and caused damage to vehicles.
