Kaja Kallas: Current EU approach to Georgia is not generating sufficient pressure for change
Democratic backsliding in Georgia is worsening. More opposition parties face bans, and the foreign agents law is suffocating civil society, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg.
According to Kallas, the Georgian people want a European future, but Georgian Dream is systematically depriving them of it.
“Democratic backsliding in Georgia is worsening. More opposition parties face bans, and the foreign agents law is suffocating civil society. The Georgian people want a European future, but Georgian Dream is systematically taking it away from them.
Our current approach is not generating sufficient pressure for change, nor is it allowing us to fully pursue European strategic interests. We will revert to this topic in January,” Kallas said.
