Justice Minister says gov't wants Saakashvili to be healthy, while he wants to be sick

“We constantly provide information to everyone who has a query regarding Mikheil Saakashvili’s health or rights,” said Georgian Justice Minister Rati Bregadze.

“Everyone in Georgia and across the world is aware that he is at a private clinic. Does he need treatment? The state enables him to do so; he is in the hospital under the constant supervision of physicians,” Rati Bregadze stated.

The desires of the state and Mikheil Saakashvili, as the Justice Minister claims, do not match.

“Our aims and those of Mikheil Saakashvili do not match. We want Saakashvili, the prisoner, to be well, but he does not want this. He wants to be as sick as possible to ruin his health artificially and escape incarceration,” Rati Bregadze added.

The minister also discussed the previous government’s penal system, which was in disarray. According to him, the evidence shows that the torturers were former government officials who are now seeking to blame others for what they did.

“We can safely argue that no governmental control existed on the grounds of the Georgian jail; it was just an area surrounded by barbed wire with an inscription declaring that there is no longer any law here,” Bregadze alleged.
