Justice Minister says ex-president's transfer overseas not discussed at meeting with ambassadors
Georgian Justice Minister Rati Bregadze claimed that no discussions about ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili’s transfer overseas for medical treatment took place during the meeting with ambassadors.
Due to high public interest, the Justice Minister wrote on Facebook that he wanted to clarify the disinformation released by one of the media outlets on February 27.
“I deliberately did not use the word lie, hoping that our European partners would at least avoid it and take care of ‘eliminating the mistake’. In response, other media outlets wrote sharper and heavier lies.
Disinformation is not a Western standard. Such behaviour, to put it mildly, is extremely inconvenient for democratic media,” Rati Bregadze remarked.
EU Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herczynski and Swedish Ambassador Ulrik Tideström on Monday delivered a formal demarche to Justice Minister Rati Bregadze concerning jailed ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili.
Herczynski said the EU member states “are very concerned about reports of Saakashvili’s deteriorating health.”
