Judo | Georgia to continue World Championships medal bid in repechage #1TVSPORT
Georgia’s national judo team, the reigning world champion in mixed team competition, lost 4-3 to Uzbekistan in the quarterfinals on the final day of the World Judo Championships in Baku and will continue its bid for a bronze medal through the repechage.
Eter Liparteliani (57 kg), Nino Gulbani (70 kg) and Lasha Bekauri (90 kg) secured victories for Georgia. In the additional contest, heavyweight judoka Sopio Somkhishvili lost her bout.
Georgia’s opponent in the repechage will be the loser of the match between Russia and France.
In the individual events, Georgia finished the World Championships with four medals. Tato Grigalashvili (81 kg) and Ilia Sulamanidze won gold, Eter Liparteliani (57 kg) took silver, and Giorgi Sardalashvili (60 kg) claimed bronze.
Georgia finished second in the overall medal standings, behind Japan.
