Journalist Mzia Amaglobeli's trial begins at Batumi City Court amid international attention
The trial of Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti media outlets, is currently underway at Batumi City Court. Today marks the first time the judge will question Amaglobeli directly.
Representatives from the diplomatic corps of several European countries have gathered at the court. Almost half of those eager to enter the courtroom were unable to do so due to limited space.
“Up to now, Mzia Amaglobeli has not been questioned in court. Today, she will respond to all questions concerning the events of January 11-12. This is a very significant day,” stated lawyer Kakhaber Tsereteli.
The judge rejected the defence’s motion to question MP Nino Tsilosani. Additionally, the defence submitted a new motion to ask questions to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. The lawyers argue that Kobakhidze has repeatedly violated the presumption of innocence concerning Amaglobeli.
