Josep Borrell to PM Kobakhidze: Coming to Brussels demonstrates you are taking Georgia's EU path very seriously
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, welcomed Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, to Brussels. Borrell stated that Kobakhidze’s visit to Brussels demonstrates Georgia’s strong commitment to the European Union path.
During a joint press conference with Kobakhidze and the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, after the EU-Georgia Association Council meeting, Borrell highlighted the mutual commitment to achieving irreversible progress in Georgia’s accession path.
“Welcome you Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze here in Brussels. It is your first visit abroad. Coming to Brussels demonstrates that you are taking Georgia’s path to the European Union very seriously. This is our first Association Council with Georgia as a candidate country. We have entered a new strategic stage in our relations. This discussion today has highlighted our mutual commitment to reach irreversible progress in Georgia’s accession path. Being a candidate country requires a new level of effort, also increased responsibility of the government, opposition, everybody, civil society, and all parties. Every Georgian has to be engaged in the reform progress,” Josep Borrell stated.
