Josep Borrell: Slovenia, Georgia heavily impacted by floods, landslides

“This summer, natural disasters are causing devastation around the world, endangering lives and destroying homes and livelihoods,” said Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, adding that “across the Mediterranean, wildfires are wreaking havoc. Slovenia and Georgia have been heavily impacted by floods and landslides.”

The death toll in the landslide-hit Shovi resort of the Oni Municipality rose to 18, the Interior Ministry said on Sunday.

As of now, eighteen people remain missing. Over 200 people have been moved to a safe area.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili declared Monday, August 7, a Day of Mourning.

A deadly landslide struck the resort on August 3.
