Josep Borrell says EU FMs concerned for Transparency Law

Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on Monday, said the Draft Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence is “incompatible with the EU values.”

In his preliminary remarks during the press conference following the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, Borrell said: “It was the commitment by the Georgian government to withdraw this project of law and not to present it again.”

“[EU] Foreign Ministers express their concern for the law on transparency and foreign influence in Georgia. This law is presented to the parliament. It was the commitment by the Georgian government to withdraw this project of law and not to present it again. This has not been fulfilled.

This law is incompatible with the EU values and we have to present an oral report on this development. but We are very much concerned about the fact that this law has been presented again to the parliament,” Borrell underscored.
