Irakli Kobakhidze – We will come back to issue of formation of Supreme Court

We will return to the issue of formation of Supreme Court. Criteria will be determined and the renewed list of judges will be presented – Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Parliament told journalists after the meeting with Giorgi Mikautadze, Secretary of High Council of Justice.

According to Kobakhidze, a working group dealing with the reform is established involving international partners, non-governmental organizations, representatives of the legal sector and all the three branches of the authorities.

“Independence of court is one of the fundamental achievements and we have progress in all directions referring to the statistics of acquitting verdicts, preliminary imprisonment, bails, penalties, etc.,” Kobakhidze stated.

Chairman of Parliament said that the government is watchful about the reached progress, though challenges remain.

“The purpose of the working group is to better enhance the reached progress and make the court system healthier. This will be achieved within the framework of the 4th wave of the court system’s reform,” Kobakhidze stated.
