Irakli Kobakhidze says parliamentary resolution is aimed at attracting attention of international community to Archil Tutunashvili's death
The aim of the parliamentary resolution is to attract the attention of the international community to the issue of Archil Tutunashvili’s death, – Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Parliament, said when commenting on the draft resolution initiated by the parliamentary majority.
“The death of Archil Tatunashvili demonstrated that it is not only a frozen conflict that exists in Tskhinvali or Abkhazia but that the situation there poses threat to the lives of civilians, citizens of Georgia,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
In response to a journalist’s question at the joint briefing of the Chairpersons of the Parliaments of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, Irakli Kobakhidze explained what is the purpose of the resolution prepared by the parliamentary majority.
“This is a special parliamentary resolution initiated by the Georgian Parliament and it concerns the tragic death of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili in the occupied Tskhinvali prison. The aim of this resolution is to draw the attention of the Georgian and international community to this difficult issue.
Archil Tatunashvili’s death demonstrated that it is not only a frozen conflict that exists in Tskhinvali or Abkhazia but it also demonstrates that the current situation causes deaths of civilians, Georgian citizens. We need to prevent similar events and this is the purpose of the resolution,” said the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia.
The resolution of the Parliament of Georgia addresses Russia and international community with regard to Archil Tutunashvili’s case.
