“We held communication with Salome Zurabishvili (independent presidential candidate) about all issues including regarding August 2008 war prior to making the decision on supporting her candidacy in the 2018 presidential elections,” Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Parliament stated in “Moambe – Day Topic” Program of First Channel.

According to Kobakhidze, members of the ruling party became sure that Zurabishvili’s viewpoints about the war coincided with their opinions.

“Moambe” inquired about Zurabishvili’s changed rhetoric about the war. Kobakhidze said he was confident that Zurabishvili would be a worthy candidate and would present the country’s interests well both on domestic and international arena.

Chairman of Parliament claimed that Zurabishvili’s statements gave ground for interpretation to the opponents. However, the presidential candidate made it clear that Russia was an aggressor and carried out occupation of Georgia’s territories in 2008.

Kobakhidze also stressed out that if not treachery activities of Saakashvili (ex-president) and National Movement (former ruling party), Russia’s aggressive scenario would not have been carried out.
