Irakli Kobakhidze - We did not hear enough arguments proving the inefficiency of the amendments to the Law on Broadcasting

Speaker of the Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze meets media representatives in order to discuss the changes to be made into Law on Broadcasting.

“I read the motivated remarks of the President’s veto and did not find anything that could be marked, remarks were very formal and “dry”,” –  Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze said during a meeting.

He says that the veto does not contain enough arguments.  As Kobakhidze noted, certain inaccuracies exist in the veto .

“President presented veto. As I know, this veto was developed together with media representatives on the basis of consultations. We expect arguments that will prove the appropriateness of the bill, however unfortunately arguments were not presented. I did not find anything that could be marked in the text. The goal of today’s meeting is to hear more arguments from media representatives; otherwise, the parliament’s position will remain unchanged”, -Kobakhidze said.

As Kobakhidze noted, text indicates that the advertising market in Georgia is limited and at the same time diminishing, however source of this information is not specified.
