Irakli Kobakhidze: Khardziani case reconfirms top-level involvement from former regime and exposes its bloody nature
“The Besarion Khardziani case serves as a stark reminder of how bloodstained, quite literally, the UNM regime was. The Khardziani case is one of the most vivid examples of this,” Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze stated in response to a journalist’s question.
According to the head of government, the investigation reconfirmed that high-ranking figures of the past regime were involved in all of this.
“Starting from how it all began, to what transpired during his imprisonment, and the aftermath that followed, high-ranking figures of the regime at the time were involved in all of it, as reconfirmed by the investigation. This case reminds us once again of how bloodstained, in the most literal sense, the UNM regime was,” the Prime Minister noted.
For context, according to information from the Prosecution Service, the court found Giorgi Udesiani and Alexandre Mukhadze guilty of the torture and extortion of businessman Besarion Khardziani.
