Irakli Kobakhidze – Georgia’s two occupied regions are transformed into closed military bases of Russia

There are forces at present time that shake foundations of security and peace, destroy territorial integrity of countries, encourage tension and confrontation among peoples and block our free choice — Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Parliament said in a speech delivered at the sitting of Foreign Relations Committee of National Assembly of France.

Kobakhidze talked about the consequences of the Russian occupation. He said that Russia established puppet regimes in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions and how human rights of locals were violated; that children were deprived of the possibility to receive education in Georgian language and that locals were not allowed to move freely.

“With purpose to erase Georgian traces, Georgian villages are destroyed; locals are abducted and tortured, those two regions are not let to share the progress reached by rest of Georgia,” Kobakhidze stated.

According to Chairman of Parliament, despite aggression, the Georgian government has been leading a policy based on pragmatic, peaceful and democratic principles with respect to Russian relations for many years.
