Irakli Kobakhidze – Criteria for selection of Judges will be elaborated
“The main thing is how the process of development of criteria will be conducted. I think the best format is the judicial reform working group,” – Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the Parliament, told journalists after meeting with Giorgi Mikautadze, Secretary of the High Council of Justice.
According to Kobakhidze, the working group includes Members of Parliament, representatives of the Ministry of Justice, High Council of Justice, international partners and civil sector. Kobakhidze said that the working group meeting will be scheduled in the nearest future.
“We discussed in detail how to proceed with the process of election of judges. We have already made a general statement about this. We noted that relevant procedure and criteria should be developed and this process should continue. The main thing is how the process of development of criteria will be conducted. I think the best format is the judicial reform working group, which has long been created. I was leading the group last year. The group includes all three branches of government: Members of Parliament, representatives of Ministry of Justice, High Council of Justice, international partners and civil sector. I think this is the best format,” Kobakhidze said.
The High Council of Justice presented a 10-member list of judicial candidates of Supreme Court to the Georgian Parliament in December of 2018.
