Irakli Kobakhidze: Based on preliminary results, all 17 candidates of Georgian Dream won parliamentary seats
Based on the preliminary results of the voting, as expected, all 17 candidates of the “Georgian Dream” won parliamentary seats, – said the Executive Secretary of the “Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia”, Irakli Kobakhidze.
As Irakli Kobakhidze noted, more than half a million fellow citizens showed high civic responsibility today and went to the polls.
“Accordingly, the Georgian Dream will be represented in the next parliament by 90 deputies. Among the opposition parties and blocs, the seats will be distributed as follows: – United National Movement – 36 seats; – European Georgia – 5 mandates; – Lelo, Strategy Builder, Alliance of Patriots and Girchi – 4-4 seats; – Citizens – 2 mandates; – Labor Party – 1 seat. As a result, on the basis of an electoral system agreed upon through the efforts of our international partners, a multi-party parliament has been formed, with nine political entities represented and where the ruling party does not hold an excessive majority. This is the most important step forward in the development of Georgian democracy” – Kobakhidze said.
According to him, the new, multi-party parliament will become the best platform for political debates on the most important issues of the country’s development.
