Interior Ministry: Ten people detained near Tbilisi Sakrebulo for disturbing public order and resisting law enforcement officers

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), law enforcement officers have detained ten people in the area adjacent to the Tbilisi City Assembly (Sakrebulo).

“Officers of the Patrol Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained ten people in the area adjacent to the Tbilisi City Assembly who were holding offensive banners in a public space.

In addition, they were using offensive language, disturbing public order and resisting law enforcement officers.

The police detained these individuals under Articles 166 and 173 of the Code of Administrative Offences,” the Ministry’s statement reads.

Article 166 of the Code of Administrative Offences concerns petty hooliganism, while Article 173 concerns failure to comply with a lawful order or request of a law enforcement officer, or the commission of any other unlawful act against them.

Activists arrived in the area adjacent to the Tbilisi City Assembly following the detention of Tornike Toshkhua. They were holding banners with content similar to that of Tornike Toshkhua and chanting similar phrases. Tornike Toshkhua had been present in the area adjacent to the Tbilisi City Assembly holding a banner referring to Bidzina Ivanishvili using obscene language, when law enforcement officers detained him under the petty hooliganism article.
