Officers from the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Imereti Police Departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have arrested three individuals in separate operations on charges of the illegal purchase, possession, and facilitating the supply of exceptionally large quantities of narcotics, as well as the cultivation of drug-yielding plants, according to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The Ministry reported that the investigation is proceeding under Articles 260, 260⁴, and 265¹ of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry a penalty of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

“During searches of the suspects’ residences across the Tsalenjikha, Chiatura, and Tskaltubo municipalities, law enforcement officers seized exceptionally large quantities of various narcotics as material evidence, including methadone, marijuana, and up to 33 kilograms of cannabis plants.

A search of one of the detainee’s homes also yielded packaging materials used for portioning narcotics and cash suspected to be proceeds from drug dealing,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs statement reads.
