The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Sulkhan Tamazashvili, has held an introductory meeting with Anna Rich, the newly appointed Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Georgia.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sulkhan Tamazashvili congratulated Anna Rich on her appointment to the new position and wished her every success in her future endeavours.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the international protection system in Georgia and current, pressing matters.

According to the Interior Ministry, the meeting paid particular attention to recent amendments to migration management and asylum legislation, and ongoing challenges and the results achieved so far.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister of Internal Affairs expressed his gratitude to the UNHCR Representative for the organisation’s long-standing support and contribution to capacity-building within the ministry. He expressed confidence that, through joint efforts, the existing cooperation would deepen further.
