Infrastructure Minister says Telavi Ravine reconstruction project to improve city safety, make disaster prevention more efficient

“With the reconstruction of Telavi Ravine, the city will become safer and renovated. We aim to reduce similar disaster risks to a minimum for the future,” said Revaz Sokhadze, Minister of Infrastructure, following inspection of disaster elimination efforts in Telavi.

According to Sokhadze, reconstruction and modernization will commence after completion of clearing works.

According to the Minister, the project comprises the construction of concrete protective walls, the arrangement of pedestrian walkways, and the reconstruction of the entire section of the ravine from the city to the Alazani River.

Within the framework of the project, the safety of the buildings located near the ravine will be assessed and when the expertise conclusion is available, the owners will be offered alternative living spaces.

Revaz Sokhadze also remarked on commercial premises damaged by the natural disaster, noting that the municipality would make the relevant decisions based on the findings of the Samkharauli Forensic Bureau.

The Infrastructure Minister, alongside Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Davit Songhulashvili, Municipal Development Fund Executive Director Giorgi Shonia and local government officials, inspected the July 12 disaster elimination works. They held a working meeting with relevant agencies.
