On the final day of the Judo Grand Slam in Baku, Ilia Sulamanidze secured a gold medal in the 100 kg category, marking the second consecutive Baku Grand Slam victory for the Georgian judoka.

In the final, Sulamanidze defeated Polish judoka Piotr Kuczera in just 47 seconds. Notably, this win contributed to Georgia’s second medal at the competition.

Other Georgian judokas who participated in the tournament included Guram Tushishvili and Shalva Gureshidze (both in the +100 kg category), Bakar Erashvili, Akaki Japaridze (both in the 90 kg category), Onise Saneblidze (100 kg), and Sofio Armenishvili (+78 kg). Despite their efforts, they were eliminated from the competition at an early stage.

It’s worth mentioning that on February 16, Eter Lipartelian (57 kg) secured a bronze medal in the same tournament.

In the 2023 edition of the Baku Grand Slam, the Georgian national team participated with 17 judokas, achieving notable successes. Ilia Sulamanidze won the championship, while Guram Tushishvili (+100 kg) and Eter Lipartelian (57 kg) secured silver medals.
