IHO Secretary General: Georgia plays important role as connecting country in region

“Georgia’s International Maritime Forum is gaining increasing importance globally, as it brings together all stakeholders involved in the maritime sector, including international organizations, states, industry, academia and everyone connected to the sea,”  Luigi Sinapi , Secretary General of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), said while attending the forum in Batumi.

According to Sinapi, maritime corridors are crucial for connectivity between countries and global trade, as well as for people’s everyday lives and well-being.

“Maritime corridors connect countries and contribute to people’s well-being and improved quality of life around the world. Imagine if maritime corridors were to stop operating globally — we would no longer have supplies of goods, fuel and many other things essential to our daily lives. This is why maritime corridors are so important, and why this event is also of great significance,” the IHO Secretary General said.

Speaking about Georgia’s role, Sinapi said the country plays an important connecting function, particularly in the Black Sea region.

“Georgia has an important role in this area. Particularly in this region, it acts as a facilitating and connecting country, linking people and states, as well as international standards and organizations, with the region and its population. That is why Georgia’s role is particularly important here, in the Black Sea region. Georgia plays a very important role in this regard,” Sinapi said.
