Political party “Girchi” responds to the decision ruled out by the Constitutional Court according to which criminal responsibility for Marijuana consumption has been lifted. The lawsuit was legally supported by the Girchi political party.

Girchi member Iago Khvichia says that as a result of Court’s decision the driving license will be returned to people who were deprived of them due to marijuana consumption.

According to him, arresting people due to possession of marijuana for personal consumption will be impossible.

Girchi member says that the Constitutional Court released a significant statement. In its decision, the Court writes that every person has the right to choose their means of relaxation, including private use of marijuana, which is the sphere protected by personal autonomy.

According to him, after the court decision, the amount of cannabis may be increased in the country; however it must not be available for minors.

Today, Constitutional Court satisfied the claim of Political Center “Girchi”, requesting to abolish the criminal responsibility against the citizen Givi Shanidze for repeated Marijuana consumption. The decision of the Constitutional Court means that consumption of marijuana in Georgia is decriminalized.
