The Helsinki Commission echoed the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party’s decision to withdraw the Transparency of Foreign Influence bill, describing it as a ‘welcome move.’
“Georgia’s ruling party’s announcement that it will withdraw its Russia-style foreign agent bill is a welcome move for defusing the crisis they alone caused. We will monitor closely to see that the bill is, in fact, formally withdrawn and protesters are speedily released,” reads the Helsinki Commission’s statement.
The parliamentary majority on Thursday decided to withdraw the Transparency of Foreign Influence bill following the consultations between the ruling Georgian Dream political council and the People’s Power parliamentary faction.
