Georgian capital Tbilisi on Tuesday was pounded by powerful storms and rain.
Heavy rain flooded underpasses, basements, and several sections of the roads, damaging power cables, and bringing down several trees.
Gldani district was mostly affected by the rainfall, while part of a slope near Tamarashvili Avenue collapsed.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said professionals worked overnight on the right bank of the River Mtkvari, which is “one of the complicated areas.”
Although drainage systems were “working properly”, rainfall and additional problems with the central sewage system made it “physically impossible” to remove precipitation, the Mayor stated.
Heavy rain, hail, and winds are expected to remain in eastern Georgia until Wednesday evening, according to the National Environment Agency.
Water levels in rivers may rise, landslides and floods may occur in mountainous areas, the Agency added.
