Heavy rainfall has triggered natural disasters in several municipalities of Georgia’s Adjara region.
In the village of Dologani, Keda Municipality, a residential house collapsed in a landslide-prone area, leaving two people injured, according to Keda City Hall.
Flooding also struck Khelvachauri Municipality early this morning, when the Machakhela River overflowed its banks, inundating several homes and damaging local infrastructure.
Relief efforts are underway, with Khelvachauri Mayor Zaza Diasamidze visiting the affected areas. He stated that municipal services are working in coordination with the Adjara Road Department to eliminate the consequences of the disaster.
“As a result of the disaster, the river overflowed its banks, flooding several houses and a picnic area. Relevant services of the City Hall and equipment from the Road Department have been mobilized to the site. Work is underway in an intensive mode. We are in constant communication with the population and calm is maintained at this stage,” Diasamidze said.
